The owners of Current Culture have created a fantastic community for fly fishing in Richmond. Best fly shop vibe ever, they can improve your fly game if you are experienced, or learn from square one. They are true educators and a blast to be around. No intimidating grumpy folks or gate-keepers; just passion, a wealth of knowledge, and true excitement for the sport.

They know what’s up with fly fishing in Virginia, from the Chesapeake Bay to the Blue Ridge Mountains, and EVERYTHING in between.

I had been fly fishing for a number of years when I found the shop. I took their Saltwater Fly Fishing course which was part instruction and part guided trip. What a blast! Everyone walked off confident, and everyone caught a number fish that day and for many folks it was their first saltwater experience (Simón, Reid, and Keegan spoiled us that day with perfect fishing, lol).

I’ve never encountered a fly shop this inviting, helpful and amazing. I am a better fly fisherman because of them. Go see them now, sign up for that class or guided trip, beginner or expert, they have you covered.

If you're fly-curious like I was, this is the spot for you. The staff at Current Culture is extremely knowledgeable and professional - but most importantly, they're passionate about increasing access to fly fishing, especially in the Richmond area.

I've been extremely happy as a customer, both buying fly fishing gear and using them as guides - but where I would say they excel the most is in their commitment to education. I participated in a Beginner's Comprehensive Fly Fishing class and the experience was invaluable. They made the sport approachable and fun to learn - and I was able to immediately put my new skills to work in the many Richmond-area fishing spots they were sure to highlight over the course of the two-day class. If you're thinking about getting into fly fishing, there's no better intro than taking this class. It's fairly-priced and covers all of the most important aspects of the sport!

THESE GUYS ARE THE BEST IN THE BUSINESS! Whether you're looking for gear, advice, lessons or full guided trips, this is the place to go. I've been on a couple of trips with Capt Sammy, both for Striper on the James, and Redfish in the bay, and was blown away by his knowledge and skill. I've been fly fishing for a decade or two, and i learned more on those trips than I have in all that time. Not to mention, caught oodles of fish. Good prices, good people, good fish. Hit 'em up, you won't regret it. If you're a fisher-person, fly or spin, don't come to Richmond without stopping by this shop.

I’ve been coming here for about a year or so now. They have everything you need to get on the fish but more importantly it’s a great community. Reid, Simón and Mechas (the owners) are more than willing to share there knowledge and love of the sport. Anytime I have a big fly fishing trip coming up I run over there for advice and tactics.

If your trying to get into fly fishing or a veteran of the sport, I definitely recommend joining the family at current culture fly.

I’ve had the opportunity to fish with Simón and Reid personally and as a part of a high school group as a chaperone. These guys get it. They are patient, excellent teachers, super knowledgeable and passionate about fishing. Their shop is unpretentious and well-equipped. Whether you are a novice or seasoned angler, pay these guys a visit. They always go above and beyond!

I had an incredible experience with Current Culture! The free casting clinic they offered was extermely helpful in improving my skills and Simón was an engaging and patient instructor. I went on a saltwater fly fishing guided trip with Simón, and it was nothing short of amazing - even with my novice casting skills. I wasn't sure what to expect out of the trip and sight casting for redfish exceeded all of my expectations!

I highly recommend this shop and their guided trips for both beginners and experienced anglers. They truly go above and beyond to make your fishing experience unforgettable.

My father and I now make it an annual trip to go fly fishing for Stripers with Simone from Current Culture Fly. Last night, we put over 60 Striped Bass in the boat!!!! Simón and his staff know their craft well and are able to teach others effectively.

Last fall, I went Trout fishing with Simón near Covington, VA and had a blast! The conditions were tough that day and Simón was committed to helping me reach my goals. At the end of the day I caught an amazing Rainbow Trout that was huge!!!
